£3b investment plan from Yorkshire Water will tackle sewage outflow

Largest ever environmental spend from utility provider

Yorkshire Water is looking at spending £1.3 billion on its stormwater project.

A £3 billion investment programme is being planned by Yorkshire Water, with almost half the huge sum set to be used to substantially reduce sewage outflow.

A decade of capital investment delivery - the largest yet - is being put to market now, as the utility provider looks to secure contractors to work on vital schemes.

The stormwater programme will see around £1.3 billion spent on reducing overflows into watercourses, with Yorkshire Water looking to procure an alliance to complete the work. It comes against a backdrop of national criticism of water companies - and the passing of legislation by government that has allowed it - for the levels of waste entering the streams, rivers and the sea.

Contract notices have now been issued on what Yorkshire Water is calling its AMP8 capital investment programme.

Alongside the “ambitious programme” of sewage reduction measures, come two non-infrastructure framework agreements, focusing on complex solutions and on more minor works. They will total some £1.5 billion of water and wastewater asset investment over the next 10 years, with the team stating they will ensure continued service to customers and the protection of the environment.

Andy Clark, head of commercial at Yorkshire Water, said: “We are currently working with customers, stakeholders and regulators to finalise programmes of work to be included in the AMP8 period, which will form part of our largest ever environmental investment programme.

“We want to really challenge ourselves as we look to the future of our delivery plan, recognising the need to evolve our processes and how we do business, to deliver the best possible value for our customers in these challenging times.
