£16.5m kitty for exporting entrepreneurs unveiled across the Northern Powerhouse

30 new international trade advisors also appointed as scheme aims to aid 3,300 SMEs

Export aid to the tune of £16.5 million has been unveiled for businesses in the North.

A package of measures, including the funding, has been established to aid recovery from the economic downturn brought on by Covid-19.

Small and medium sized businesses across the Northern Powerhouse region will be able to access it, with the aim of supporting jobs, growth and prosperity.

A total of 30 new international trade advisors will also provide direct support as the end of the Brexit transition period arrives.

Ministers have also issued in a pilot Export Academy scheme to support those new to overseas trade. It will deliver a series of activities that will build capabilities.

Minister for Exports and MP in the included constituency of Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart MP, said: “The Government is negotiating trade deals around the world and we are determined to help º£½ÇÊÓÆµ businesses take advantage of the markets we are opening. “As part of the recovery from coronavirus, I am delighted to announce this funding and support, which will be invaluable to businesses looking to begin or continue their exporting journeys.

“In 2019 we overtook France to become the world’s fifth largest exporter and this package is a statement of our confidence in º£½ÇÊÓÆµ companies to grow the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ as an exporting superpower. “The package will ensure businesses are supported from the start, with more funding, more trade advisors and the establishment of the Export Academy to help businesses build back better.
