100 jobs lost as Cruden Group falls into administration

Around 100 jobs have been lost after North West construction firm Cruden Group fell into administration.

KPMG announced on Friday that the coronavirus crisis had been the "last straw" for the Warrington company after it lost contracts and costs piled up.

Howard Smith and David Costley-Wood were appointed Joint Administrators of Cruden Group Ltd, Cruden Construction Limited and Cruden Property Services Limited on July 31.

While 100 staff have been made redundant, the remaining 26 have been retained to support the wind down of the business, which operated in the construction and property services sectors, predominantly across the North West.

Projects included Torus' Lyndale affordable housing scheme in Eastham, and Belong’s £19m care village in Birkdale.

Howard Smith, associate partner at KPMG and joint administrator, said: “While trading had been challenging for some time, the impact of COVID-19 was the final straw.

"Discussions to sell the business did not progress, leaving no option but to close.

“Our priority over the days ahead is to support those members of staff who have been affected by redundancy, providing them with any assistance they need.”
