Work starts on major new Birmingham housing estate

Wavensmere Homes and Galliard Apsley Partnership are behind the 'Belgrave Village' scheme on a former college site

Work has started on the Belgrave Village scheme in Birmingham

Work has started on a major new housing project in Birmingham. Joint venture partners Wavensmere Homes and Galliard Apsley Partnership have broken ground on the 'Belgrave Village' project on land at the corner of Haden Way and Belgrave Middleway.

The JV team is regenerating a 12-acre site which has been vacant for more than 20 years and was previously home to Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College and Birmingham Sports Centre.

The new development will have 438 units, comprising 264 apartments and 174 houses in a range of different sizes.

There will also be courtyard gardens, public realm and a park and 263 parking spaces as well as amenities for residents including a gym, co-working space, screening room and a concierge for the apartments.

It is scheduled for completion in 2025, with the first residents expected to move in from late next year.

James Dickens, managing director of Wavensmere Homes, said: "The ground-breaking represents a significant milestone in the construction of Belgrave Village which will provide high-quality homes with a range of amenities and green spaces for residents to enjoy.

"Buyers have bought into our vision for the development, with phase one already sold out such is the level of demand."
