A new pub has opened its doors in West Bromwich which owes its name to the famed Jensen Interceptor sports car once built in the area.

‘The Interceptor’, located in the New Square shopping centre, is part of Greene King’s Hungry Horse pub chain and has created around 40 jobs.

The name was chosen following consultation between Greene King and the local community.

When construction was taking place Greene King launched a competition for local people to help name the pub.

Suggestions ranged from ‘The Throstle’ to ‘The Alderman Farley’ but ‘The Interceptor’ was chosen after a suggestion by West Bromwich man John Harper.

Mr Harper suggested naming the pub ‘The Jensen’, after the sports car manufacturer based in West Bromwich and Greene King decided it would be apt to name it after Jensen’s best-known vehicle.

The iconic car, which was once driven by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Princess Anne, was originally made in West Bromwich before the factory there closed its doors in May 1976.
