Wales is the cheapest place in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to set up a pop-up unit.

Across the country it is on average 10p per square foot, for Cardiff it is £1.

The analysis from Direct Line for Business found the Welsh capital is an attractive location for the new generation of pop-up retailers, with rents for these temporary shop spaces costing a third of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ average.

A wide variety of outlets are available to rent for an average of £543 per day, with an average floor space of 5,435 sq ft, working out at just over £1 per square foot.

The research shows that traditional retail entrepreneurs looking to broaden their catchment area, or online retailers looking to engage a new audience in-store, have scalable options available to them across Cardiff.

The pop-up spaces in the St David’s Centre range from as little as £100 per day for a 1,603 sq ft space up to £1,429 for a 20,000 sq ft warehouse-style space.

Jasvinder Gakhal, managing director, Direct Line for Business, said: “Pop-up retail space is so affordable in Cardiff that any local budding retail entrepreneur can test out selling direct for the first time.  For those with established online businesses, pop-up shops provide a fantastic opportunity to test out physical retailing; engaging customers in person and testing the feasibility of opening a permanent location.

“With retail space available for such low daily rates in Wales and with the market offering such a huge range of spaces in terms of size and availability, pop-up shops are incredibly accessible for small businesses.
