Vinoteca to close in Birmingham less than a year after launching

Wine bar group came to city last summer, marking its first foray outside of the capital, but has struggled with economic challenges of past year

A wine bar in the heart of Birmingham's business district is closing down less than a year after it launched.

Vinoteca, based on the ground floor of Two Chamberlain Square on the Paradise estate, opened just a week The launch marked the company's first venture outside of the capital.

But the owners have now announced they have struggled to run the business in the face of the post-pandemic working landscape and the economic challenges of the past 12 months.

The venue is 4,500 sq ft, making it one of the city's largest, and has 40 seats overlooking Chamberlain Square along with seating outside to enjoy a drink in the sun.

Its extensive wine list has around 200 drinks to choose from and there is also a food menu. The final day of trading will be Saturday May 27.

Vinoteca is based in London where it runs five other venues which are not affected by this announcement.

The company said in a statement: "The move is in answer to difficult trading conditions during and post-pandemic which has had a huge impact on leisure operators across the country.
