A new residential complex in Birmingham city centre has signed deals with its first two commercial tenants.

Convenience retailer Budgens and Japanese restaurant Zoku have both agreed terms for ground-floor space in the Sherlock Quarter complex.

Budgens is part of the Booker Group and the store will be owned and run by an independent retailer, selling fresh produce, packaged food and other household essentials.

Zoku will be taking just under 2,000 sq ft for the new restaurant which is set to open its doors in the spring, offering a menu of East Asian favourites.

The brand is owned by Maak Capital which also runs The Palace Hotpot in Essex Street, close to the city's Chinese Quarter.

The apartment block is the first in Birmingham to be run by operator Get Living, with residents moving in from this month.

Sherlock Quarter, in Sherlock Street next to the former Wholesale Markets site, comprises six blocks, the tallest of which is 30 storeys.

It contains 551 apartments for rent only and amenities such as a sky lounge, gym and yoga studio.

The ground floor has 16,500 sq ft of commercial space, more than half of which is in advanced negotiations, according to Get Living.

Richard Allen, asset director at Get Living, said "Budgens and Zoku are brilliant additions to Sherlock Quarter, our first neighbourhood in Birmingham, and are set to be very popular with both our residents and the wider community.

"Across all of our neighbourhoods, we aim to support and offer space to local brands that become an integral part of the wider community, and both Budgens and Zoku are a great example of that.

"As the neighbourhood prepares to welcome its first residents, we look forward to expanding the retail line up on the ground floor with more exciting brands."
