More than 250 new apartments are set to be built on an industrial site in Birmingham.

Developers are planning to regenerate a plot at the corner of Princip Street and New Town Row, in the city's Gun Quarter, to create a canalside apartment complex reaching up to 23 storeys.

The newly submitted application by Birmingham-based Taylor Grange Developments is a revised version of its previous designs first revealed 18 months ago to build 295 apartments across a series of blocks reaching up to 19 storeys.

That project was withdrawn in September following discussions with city council planning officers, prompting the developer to go back to the drawing board.

Under these latest designs, Taylor Grange is seeking permission to build 132 one-bedroom and 134 two-bedroom apartments for rent only, across three blocks of six, seven and 23 storeys respectively.

To be called Lancaster Wharf, there would also be basement parking for 28 cars and two motorcycles, 115 cycle spaces and residents' courtyards.

The site is currently used by West Midlands Police Authority as a storage depot but it is due to vacate the site this summer after which buildings there will be demolished.
