Plans for a new residential and hotel complex reaching 35 storeys have been unveiled on a Birmingham road targeted for high-rise projects in recent years.

Developers are eyeing a plot in Broad Street to build 440 apartments for rent and a 230-bedroom hotel, adding to an area already bustling with construction work and the Midlands Metro extension.

The application site, which is bounded by Ryland Street and Grosvenor Street West, currently houses a car park and business centre which is only partially occupied.

If given the green light, these would be demolished and replaced with a 35-storey tower and a second 'shoulder' building of six storeys containing 204 one-bedroom and 236 two-bedroom apartments.

There would also be a cycle workshop and parking for 168 bikes, communal amenities including a gym, cinema and lounge area and the tall building will have a 'crown' containing a 360-degree roof terrace.

A landscaped courtyard will be developed with a 200m running track alongside exercise stations and 'zones' for different activities.

There would also be an eight-storey block fronting onto Grosvenor Street West for the three-star hotel, with flexible ground-floor space including a bar and dining area.
