A County Durham warehousing company is creating new jobs after being awarded new business with a global manufacturer.

Stiller Warehousing and Distribution has sealed a deal with the unnamed customer which will see it grow its packing and fulfilment operations. Formed in 1954, Stiller provides warehousing and distribution services to businesses across the North East from its 20-acre operation on Aycliffe Business Park and currently employs 180 people.

The Newton Aycliffe business is now fitting out a 41,500 sq ft unit at the business park to accommodate the new line of work, which will create up to 20 new roles. It is repurposing a former engineering building on Grindon Way into an assembly and packing facility and is now in the process of recruiting assembly and packing operatives, administrative roles and supervisory positions, with staff set to join the business ahead of the work starting in January.

The new contract will see the Stiller team assemble and pack more than 175,000 units of industrial equipment a month at the facility. Stiller managing director Matthew Stiller said: “We’re excited to be hiring assembly and packing operatives in anticipation of our new project beginning in January.

“We secured a facility at Grindon Way, Aycliffe Business Park, one year ago which is currently undergoing improvements to ensure it’s the right environment for the precise and clean assembly tasks our team will undertake. This new work, when added to our existing contract packing and fulfilment business arm, now turns over close to £2m in sales annually.

“We’re keen to leverage the team’s experience that’s going to be formed for this new line of work to develop similar complementary work for new and existing customers.”

Stiller has joined forces with Darlington-based Recruitment Management Solutions (RMS) to find the new starters. The company recently published accounts covering 2022 which showed turnover rose from £20.1m to £21.03m, while operating profit rose from £1.89m to £2.58m.

The growth came on the back of new local clients as well as a boost from its membership in the Palletline distribution network. To help keep pace with the expansion orders were placed for new HGV equipment valued at nearly £3m.
