Site works begin at major Black Country housing estate

Almost 500 new homes are being delivered at former business park site

Preparatory work has begun on a new development of almost 500 homes in the Black Country.

Housebuilder Persimmon is leading the 65-acre scheme on the former Newey Business Park and Bean Foundry brownfields sites in Tipton.

The project, known as Coseley New Village, will deliver 72 apartments and 400 houses ranging from two to four bedrooms at the site near the junction of Birmingham New Road and Sedgley Road West.

Construction of the new properties is due to start before the end of this year once the preparation work is completed.

Nick Wilkins, technical director at Persimmon Homes Central, said: "This is a fabulous site which will bring much needed homes to the Tipton and Coseley area. We will be offering a range of homes to suit local needs.

"Within the design of our development, we have incorporated a network of new public open spaces that link to the adjoining canal which will make it a nice place for people to live."

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council leader Cllr Patrick Harley added: "This development will bring a range of homes for the local people of Dudley and will go some way towards addressing the housing shortage in our Borough which is a priority for the council."
