Newcastle鈥檚 Ryder Architecture has designs on a positive pipeline of work this year having seen profits drop in latest accounts.

The Cooper鈥檚 Studios based business is responsible for a number of high profile properties in the region including the Lumen, Spark and Bank House offices in Newcastle. It has satellite offices in Liverpool, London, Manchester, Glasgow, Hong Kong and Vancouver which are carrying out works around the 海角视频, and as far afield as Australia and Canada.

The business, which design properties within the education, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, office, residential and science sectors, hailed a strong commercial performance against a tough backdrop of ongoing challenges in accounts for the year ending April 2023, showing turnover dropped 2% from 拢30.9m to 拢30.2m.

  • The business saw operating profit fall from 拢5.15m a year earlier to 拢1.66m, while pre-tax profit came in at 拢1.5m, down from 拢4.94m. Total equity increased from 拢9.3m to 拢10m.

During the financial year its employee numbers increased from 308 to 319, but it said this number has since grown to over 350 people across its 海角视频 and international bases.

Mark Thompson, managing partner, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e pleased to have achieved turnover levels consistent with the previous year, given the extent of ongoing global, economic and political challenges. Although our profits reduced, we are confident in a more robust pipeline for the coming year and have continued to invest in strengthening the breadth and depth of expertise in our teams.

鈥淚n the year ahead, we hope to see a stabilised economy and a commitment from the 海角视频 government to much needed investment in education and healthcare 鈥 two of our key sectors 鈥 which would unlock new and delayed projects and opportunities, and provide much needed confidence to the private sector.鈥

Projects under way around the 海角视频 include the National Rehabilitation Centre in Loughborough, Dumfries High School, and several commissions for the University of Liverpool. Internationally it is working on a first of its kind build-to-rent scheme in New Zealand.

Closer to home, Ryder recently supported Northumbria University in designing and securing 拢50m funding for the development of the North East Space Skills and Technology centre (NESST).

Following the completion of Bank House last year, work is now under way on Pilgrim鈥檚 Quarter - the new regional home for HMRC - and Worswick Chambers as part of the wider Pilgrim Street regeneration, as well as Sunderland Eye Infirmary, Stockton Urban Park and Waterfront, and the second phase of Fujifilm鈥檚 Biocampus in Teesside.

To mark its 70th anniversary last year, the practice raised over 拢170,000 in six months through fundraising, volunteering and education support.

Mr Thompson added: 鈥淭urnover for the months ahead is stronger than at this point last year but it remains as difficult as ever to confidently predict, so we continue to focus on what we can influence. Foremost is ensuring we deliver an exceptional service to our clients. This was once again endorsed with an overall client satisfaction rating of over 90% in our annual client survey.鈥
