A historic jewellery business which is approaching its 90th anniversary has announced plans to open a third shop in Birmingham city centre.

Rudells will launch the new store in November in the former Suit Direct shop in New Street, having spent several years looking for a location in which to open a city shop.

It will have 4,000 sq ft of retail space over two floors and sell jewellery by high-end brands including being the exclusive home in Birmingham for luxury watchmaker Patek Philippe.

Rudells was founded on Valentine's Day in 1938 by Justin Rudell in Wolverhampton as a retailer of leather ware and other goods before transitioning into the jewellery market in 1950. In 1986, the firm opened a second shop in the Birmingham suburb of Harborne.

Rudells' managing director Jon Weston said: "I have been looking for the perfect premises in Birmingham for some time but nowhere had the right feel to it until now.

"I am delighted that we will be partnering with Patek Philippe, coupled with renowned jewellery, Rudell quality, service and value in the heart of the city on New Street. This will be a very exciting, luxurious addition to the city centre."

Adrian Lurshay, managing director of Patek Philippe º£½ÇÊÓƵ, added: "We feel honoured to be part of the Rudells expansion, being present now at the new Birmingham store.
