Louise Brooke-Smith, founder of Birmingham-based planning consultancy Brooke Smith Planning, has been named the Outstanding Woman in Construction in this year’s Women in Construction Awards.
Ms Brooke-Smith is currently the global president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) – the first person from the West Midlands to hold the post in its 147-year history.
Her latest accolade was announced at a ceremony held at Lancashire County Cricket Club, though she was unable to collect the award in person as she is currently in South Africa.

The Women in Construction Awards provide a showcase for the best female achievers in the construction and related industries.
Ms Brooke-Smith said: “I am honoured to have taken this award, not just for me but for the whole of my teams both at Brooke Smith Planning and at the RICS.”
Her nomination was for both her role with her 10-strong consultancy and her global role with the RICS, where, as its first female president, she has been championing the role of women throughout the surveying sector.
“Diversity is critical for successful business, particularly in the world of property, construction and infrastructure,” Ms Brooke-Smith added.
“Planning is a key part of the construction life cycle and I am particularly pleased that my win recognises the value of this discipline.

The other finalists were Ange Francis, John Sisk & Son, Bernice Ramchandani of The Hyde Group, Bridget Bartlett of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Christine Townley of Construction Youth Trust, Kath Fontana of BAM, Sarah Davis from Skills4Stem and Swan Housing Group’s Valerie Owen,
The awards are backed by a number of the construction industry’s leading names, including Taylor Woodrow, Mace and Laing O’Rourke.
