A 1980s office block in the heart of Birmingham's business district could undergo a wholesale renovation programme which includes creating a new roof terrace.

Plans have been lodged to carry out the facelift work at 35 Newhall Street.

Proposals include repurposing part of the existing top-floor plant room to create a new sky lounge and roof terrace along with a new-look reception and revamp work on the external façade.

Six electric vehicle charging points are set to be installed in its basement car park along with a 44-space cycle hub, lockers and changing facilities, reducing the total number of car parking bays from 30 to 19.

The six-storey building, situated at the corner with Cornwall Street, has around 68,000 sq ft of internal floor space.

The existing building entrance in Newhall Street has "limited visual impact", according to the plans, so will also undergo facelift work and replace the existing canopy with a portal with perimeter lighting.

The building is vacant except for space occupied by law firm Kennedys which is due to move out in May.
