Retail logistics operator swoops for super site for fashion fulfilment with hundreds of jobs to come

Sheffield site spans 346,300 sq ft with offices and warehousing

PLP Smithywood on the outskirts of Sheffield.

Fashion retail-focused logistics provider Advanced Supply Chain Group has taken a 346,300 sq ft new warehouse development on the outskirts of Sheffield, with hundreds of new jobs to be created.

PLP Smithywood, where the third party Bradford-based operator is basing itself, is a 17-acre gateway logistics facility, one of the largest speculative developments seen in Yorkshire and one of the first completed Carbon Net Zero facilities of its kind.

It will offer the 24-year-old business warehousing and fulfilment operations.

Claire Webb, managing director at Advanced Supply Chain Group, said: “We’re working with Invest Sheffield who are connecting us with a rich local talent pool, ranging from graduates through to experienced supply chain operatives.

“This will help us to quickly recruit for a mix of roles, which will be key to us realising the prime position of Smithywood. It’s close to the M1 and reaches most of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ in less than four-and-a-half hours. We’ll have the right place and people to continue to deliver and uphold the fast, reliable and accurate service our customers expect.”

The site, at Junction 35 of the M1, was acquired by PLP’s flagship investment vehicle, º£½ÇÊÓƵ Logistics Venture, in October 2019.

Investors include Ivanhoé Cambridge, Peel L&P and MIRA Real Estate.

Matt Fitton, development director at PLP, said: ‘In welcoming Advanced Supply Chain Group to PLP Smithywood it is particularly pleasing that a fast growing end-to-end logistics provider has recognised both the locational qualities of PLP Smithywood and PLP’s commitment to carbon net zero warehousing facilities, we wish them well in the new facility.”
