A specialist fit-out contractor which has worked on the Savoy, Battersea Power Station and the Houses of Parliament has reported another year of record results.

Management at EE Smith Contracts – which marked its 125 th anniversary last year – said it had a turnover of £75.1 million in the year ending March 31. That was up more than a fifth from £61.5 million.

Managing director Neil Bottrill said profits had also returned to pre Covid-19 levels despite the cost inflation on – now completed – fixed price contracts. Pre-tax profits were almost £2.8 million, up from £1.2 million.

The business employs more than 300 people at its headquarters in Leicester and in recent months has added 18 new apprentices to its ranks during the financial year with its training programme achieving a fourth consecutive placing in the annual top 100 list of º£½ÇÊÓƵ Apprenticeship Employers.

Recent contracts have seen the team work on prestigious developments including the Peninsula London hotel alongside Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch, and two “super-prime” London residences.

Mr Bottrill said: “When viewed against the continuing headwinds of material and labour inflation, as well as huge increases in energy costs, this last 12 months has been a financial success and one to be very proud of.

“We have had the pleasure, and challenge, of carrying out work in what can only be described as the very pinnacle of the super-prime fit-out market, both in the residential and hotel sector in London.

“This underlines the fact that our skillset, drive and attention to detail continues to attract the elite of the fantastic industry that we are in.
