Plans unveiled for Birmingham's tallest tower

Developers want to build a 61-storey city centre block containing more than 500 luxury apartments

Ambitious plans to build Birmingham's tallest structure complete with a sky bar and restaurant have been unveiled.

Developers want to construct a 61-storey tower containing 503 luxury apartments and ground floor commercial units at 100 Broad Street.

At 633 feet, it would take the title of the tallest building in the city, outstripping the current holder, the BT Tower in the Jewellery Quarter, by around 134 feet.

If approved, it would have a glass 'crown' containing a sky lounge and fine dining restaurant said to the highest in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ outside of London and also a two-storey pavilion building for amenities such as residents' lounge, gym, cinema and games room.

There would be 224 one-bedroom and 279 two-bedroom apartments for sale, secure storage for around 250 bikes but no car parking however a new tram stop will be located immediately in front of the building when the Metro is extended.

The application site at the corner of Broad Street and Ryland Street is under an acre in size and is currently occupied by an office block called Centennial House which would be demolished.

Birmingham-based Euro Property Investments, the group behind the regeneration of the city centre former council building Louisa Ryland House, is behind this scheme which has been designed by Jewellery Quarter-based practice Glancy Nicholls Architects.

Subject to receiving planning permission this year, construction would commence in 2021 and be completed by 2024.
