A new 37-storey tower containing 450 apartments to rent could be built in the next phase of a residential project in Birmingham.

Developer and operator Moda Living has launched a consultation on phase two of the New Garden Square scheme in Edgbaston.

Alongside the tall residential tower, there would be amenities for residents and commercial space for retail, restaurant or café uses, subject to city council backing.

A planning application is set to be submitted to authority following the public consultation. Phase one of New Garden Square contains 398 and topped out in June.

It is due to begin welcoming residents in the first half of next year while the overall masterplan could eventually see up to 1,600 new residential units and £6 million worth of public realm at the 11-acre site.

The development land, which is bordered by Hagley Road and Beaufort Road, is owned by historic Birmingham property group Calthorpe Estates.

Proposals for New Garden Square were first launched in 2016 and early iterations contained plans for around 500,000 sq ft of office space and a 100-bedroom hotel alongside apartments and accommodation for food and beverage operators.
