Plans to transform an area of Birkenhead and build 1,600 new homes have been submitted.

Regeneration specialist Ion Property Developments is behind the proposals for the Hing Street scheme which would also include a new primary school and up to 60,200m2 of commercial space set aside for offices, shops, cafes and restaurants. There would also be space for healthcare services, a new multi-storey car park and hotels.

The 26-hectare Hind Street Urban Garden Village Project is part of Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council's ambition to remove the 1960's flyovers that currently act as a visual and physical barrier to the town centre.
