Plans have been submitted for international hotel operator Meininger’s debut scheme  in Manchester city centre.

Subject to planning being approved, the 12 storey, 212-bedroom 'hybrid-hotel' will open on Great Ancoats Street by January 2022 and will create more than 20 full time jobs.

It will offer 785 beds in total, in a mix of rooms including classic doubles, private multiple-bed rooms and dormitories.

The German operator is known for its international budget hotels with hostel-like facilities.

The Manchester site will include affordable modern accommodation alongside a reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room and bar as well as a guest kitchen and games zone. It will also have a taxi drop off area, disabled parking and secure cycle store.

The plans have been submitted by development company S Harrison.

“As well as bringing a leading hotel operator to Manchester, this development will complement all the regeneration work that has taken place in recent years in this popular part of the city, which is just a 10-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly station,” said Ann Scott, S Harrison’s managing director.

“We’ve used our vast experience working in the hotel and leisure sector to create this opportunity, bring the scheme forward and submit a planning application for our first Manchester development.
