Wavensmere Homes is hoping to win Birmingham's backing for new residential development

Redevelopment plans for the home of a former conference centre in Birmingham have been unveiled.

Wavensmere Homes is hoping to win backing to regenerate the former Clarendon Suites site, in Edgbaston, to create 75 three-bedroom townhouses and 90 apartments alongside public realm and a children's play area.

The 3.4-acre plot, which has lain vacant for over a decade, is located off Clarendon Road and Hagley Road.

Opened in 1971, Clarendon Suites was designed by the legendary Birmingham architect John Madin and was operated by the Warwickshire Masonic Brethren until its closure in 2014.

It staged conferences, exhibitions and banquets and was used as the Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire Masons.

and the site was demolished and cleared three years later.

Edgbaston-based Wavensmere Homes was chosen as the preferred developer following recent marketing of the land by property agency JLL.
