Plans for a "next generation workspace" in Manchester, which would be a "first of its kind" for the city, have been submitted.

Property developer HBD is behind the 'Island' scheme which would rise to ten storeys if backed by Manchester City Council.

The development would have a "hospitality-driven experience" throughout the ground floor as well as a "laid-back basement space" will host events and a roof terrace.

Designed by architecture practice Cartwright Pickard, HBD's scheme is also proposing the pedestrianisation of a section of Ridgefield.

Adam Brady, executive director at HBD, said: "Island is the first building in Manchester to be designed post-pandemic and the design reflects that.

"It won’t just look great, it’ll be a place where people feel happy to spend their time, whether they’re working or relaxing.

"We’re creating a great community at Kampus and we’ll look to do the same at Island. We want to offer something new and exciting. It’ll be the best space in the city."

Lee Treanor, director at HBD, added: "Sustainability is a massive focus for HBD and has been central to the design of Island. It will be low carbon and environmentally friendly, with health and wellbeing at its core.
