Plans have been lodged for another massive warehouse at a major logistics park in the East Midlands.

Proposals have been submitted to North West Leicestershire District Council to build a 670,000 sq ft building at the Segro Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway, near Castle Donington.

The logistics park, which is located close to East Midlands Airport, the M1 and is served by its own rail freight interchange, is already home to a number of large warehouse buildings occupied by Amazon, Very, XPO Logistics and Kuehne and Nagel.

It has not been revealed which company would occupy the latest building being proposed or how many jobs might be created.

But the plans do state that the building is a “bespoke design for a specific occupier”.

It would be built on Plot 12 of the logistics park and would consist of a 670,000 sq ft distribution warehouse, along with a 20,000 sq ft main office and 5,000 sq ft transport hub. The whole site would be served by just under 500 car parking spaces.

According to the plans, if the district council gives the go-ahead, construction work could begin later this year and be completed by early 2022.

In planning documents submitted to the council PHP Architects, on behalf of Segro, it states: “The proposals for Plot 12 carry significant public benefit through the delivery of job creation for the area and through enabling the occupier to strive to achieve their low carbon ambitions, in line with national and local objectives.
