Developer HBD is leading the project at the former James Bridge Cooper Works which could create 1,100 new jobs

Plans have been lodged for the first phase of a £188 million industrial property scheme in the Black Country.

Developer HBD is leading the 44-acre 'Spark' development on the former James Bridge Cooper Works site near junction nine of the M6 west of Walsall town centre.

Previously known as 'Phoenix 10', the aim is to create a major new logistics and manufacturing hub which HBD said could create up to 1,100 new jobs in the West Midlands.

Enabling works began earlier this year at the site and are nearing completion.

Once completed, Spark will provide 620,000 sq ft of high-spec space, with units ranging from 20,000 sq ft to 254,000 sq ft.

HBD is working in partnership with Walsall Council, Homes England, West Midlands Combined Authority and Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership on the development, off Reservoir Place.

The first units are due to be ready for occupation in early 2025, subject to consent.
