Plans to build an industrial building on Bradford's Wakefield Road have been approved despite acknowledgement it will spoil views of a listed building.

Planning officers said the development - proposed by Tahir Mahmood - would yield jobs in a key part of the city.

Once built, the unit will obscure views of the Grade II listed St John's Church, which dates back to 1842.

In 2018, Mr Mahmood submitted proposals for a large building split into two units on the vacant piece of land, and Bradford Council approved the plans.

Last year he altered the plans to split the building into six units.

A Conservation officer on Bradford Council said this was "regrettable" that a "functional commercial building" would block views of an Early-English Gothic-Revival style church, and its prominent spire.

Conservation Officer Jon Ackroyd said: "Current views of the Grade II listed church, one of the few buildings of any architectural merit in the locality, would be obstructed when approaching down Wakefield Road.
