Plans for 2,500 new homes in Cardiff, with new office, leisure and retail space, have been submitted for approval.

Following a public consultation exercise developer Vastint º£½ÇÊÓƵ has lodged an outline planning application for its proposed development, the Embankment, with Cardiff Council.

The masterplan covers 40-acres of land at Dumballs Road across to the River Taff.

The mixed-use project aims to strengthen connections between the city centre and Cardiff Bay along the banks of the river.

As well creating up to 2,500 new homes the Embankment scheme would provide more than 500,000 sq ft of new business space as well as opportunities for leisure, hospitality and retail users, on what is currently seen as under-utilised, low-quality industrial space.

Subject to approval the scheme would also provide new connections between Grangetown and Butetown with a new cycle and footbridge across the River Taff.

The scheme also has a new public square in the centre of development.

There are also plans for a new water taxi-stop.
