Supermarket chain Aldi is to build new offices and warehouses at its Warwickshire headquarters in a move which could create up to 800 new jobs.

Aldi said the plan to expand its º£½ÇÊÓƵ base in Atherstone was as a result of its continued growth in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

The new facilities, which will cover 13.5 acres south of Rowlands Way in Atherstone, were given the green light by North Warwickshire District Council’s planning committee on Monday August 5.

As well as a new warehouse and offices the development also includes a multi-storey car park, which will provide almost 800 spaces for new workers at the site.

Aldi statement

A statement submitted to the council on behalf of Aldi said: “The proposal provides a significant contribution to the region in terms of creating stable long-term jobs, which provide an income that is in excess of existing market rates.

“This new phase of development will boost the economy, locally, regionally and nationally as the proposal is required to support the ongoing growth of the business which has been expanding year on year since arriving in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ in 1990.

“Recent expansion of the business around the country has added additional workload to the head office, thus the requirement to expand their site headquarters to accommodate the recently experienced and expected growth of the business.

“The proposed development is to be phased over the next four years, with an expectation of providing local construction jobs over this time frame, the majority of which will provide a permanent and full-time role.”
