Work on a historic Birmingham pub has been given the green light after .
Fears arose last week over the state of the Grade II*-listed Red Lion, in Soho Road, Handsworth, after the Post reported it had been and photographs showed rooms which had been stripped back.
However, Birmingham City Council has visited the premises and confirmed protected features like its cream, green, blue and gold Minton wall tiles and a smoke room with a panel of etched and gilded glass had not been affected by work.
A spokesman for Birmingham City Council said: "Having visited the Red Lion pub last week we are satisfied that the owner has not carried out any unauthorised works to the building."
DR Developments director Raj Lal has put the property up for auction after investing money to overcome dry rot and major structural issues in recent years.
The three-storey building covers a total of 4,251 sq ft and planning permission was granted in 2012 for the demolition of outbuildings and exterior toilet blocks and the erection of single-storey rear extension to convert it into a restaurant.
The pub is now one of the lots being offered by CPBigwood at an auction on October 23 with a guide price of £245,000.
