One of Liverpool's oldest buildings to get £35m makeover as part of plans for boutique hotel

The hotel - due for completion in late 2022– will feature a brasserie, cocktail bar and spa

Municipal Buildings on Dale Street in Liverpool

One of Liverpool's oldest buildings is set for a £35m makeover as part of plans to transform it into a boutique hotel.

Koncept ID has secured a contract to deliver a "lavish" interior makeover to Municipal Building on Dale Street, which was constructed for council staff in the mid 19th Century.

Working alongside contractor Russell WBHO – previously Russells Construction, Koncept said it will look to "sympathetically reinstate original features".

It has been appointed for the 180-bed project by the Singaporean developer, The Fragrance Group.

A reflection of the wealth and status of the old Liverpool Corporation, Municipal Building boasts grand pillars, decorative vaulted ceilings and marble fireplaces.

Jenny Denton, lead designer, said: “The Municipal Building is truly magnificent and the potential was clear from our very first visit. The design focuses on breathing new life into original features, restoring the building to its former glory while injecting a good dose of sophisticated elegance.”

“The new hotel will bring an exciting destination to Liverpool and with such a rich heritage, it’ll be a must-visit for locals and tourists alike.”
