The new store will join existing tenants including DFS, Oak Furniture Land and Wren

A new store is set to be built at Octagon Retail Park in Hanley

A new store is set to be constructed at a Stoke-on-Trent retail park.

Plans have been submitted to build a new 5,500 square-foot building at Octagon Retail Park in Hanley.

It has not yet been revealed which company will take on the premises but the business will join current tenants including DFS, ncf Living, Sofology, starplan bedrooms, Wren, Oak Furniture Land and the Sofa Store on the city centre site.

A planning and retail statement submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "The owners are seeking planning permission for alterations to the exterior of the DFS building to facilitate its integration into Octagon Retail Park and the erection of an additional bulky goods retail unit adjacent.

"It is proposed that the additional retail unit will be occupied by a bulky goods retailer aligned to the existing retailers on the park which are all in the furniture sector.

"The area adjacent to DFS comprises the existing service yard for DFS, landscaping and car parking.

The new store will be built on the DFS service yard if plans are approved

"The proposed occupier is not yet known but it is likely to be drawn from the types of bulky goods retailers’ furniture, home furnishings, homewares.

"DFS is a popular destination for bulky goods furniture shopping in the Stoke-on-Trent area."
