A new kind of Amazon fulfilment centre is opening in Rugby and creating 400 jobs

The Rugby Gateway fulfilment centre will only deal with wine, beer and spirits

Amazon's newest º£½ÇÊÓƵ fulfilment centre represents something altogether different for the company as it will be specialising in just one product.

Unlike Amazon's growing network of distribution centres across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, which handle a huge variety of goods, the Rugby facility will only see alcohol coming in and out of its loading and unloading docks.

The 270,000 sq ft new build on the Rugby Gateway business park will deal exclusively with beer, wine and spirits.

Construction of the new centre, which is creating more than 400 jobs, is almost complete.

It is due to open for business sometime this summer though a firm date is yet to be announced.

It is the size of three-and-a-half football pitches, on four levels and has five kilometres of conveyor belts running around it.

The Rugby fulfilment centre is creating around 400 permanent jobs but will employ more than double that number at busy times, such as Christmas.

BusinessLive was invited to take a sneak peek behind the scenes as the fit-out process nears completion.
