CGIs show how historic building will look as renovation project enters final few months

New images showing how The Grand hotel in Birmingham will look have been released as developers enter the final phases of its regeneration.

The grade II*-listed venue in Colmore Row has been closed for almost two decades but is set to re-open this summer after undergoing a £45 million facelift.

The Grand, which was built in the 1870s but closed in 2002, will have 185 bedrooms following a lengthy renovation programme by owner Hortons' Estate and its development partner Starwood Capital which will also operate the new venue.

The centrepiece of the renovations is the ornate Grosvenor Room and grand staircase while other original character features have been restored.

There will also be penthouse suites with views of Birmingham Cathedral while an outdoor terrace in the central courtyard has been created for the first time.

Also included in the redevelopment are two new bars, restaurant, gym, meeting rooms and event spaces.

There have been several openings in other parts of The Grand building in recent years including basement restaurant Tattu, cocktail bar The Alchemist and retailer Cycle Republic among others.
