New images of Gun Quarter redevelopment

CGIs show how new 534-bedroom student block next to the A38 will look as diggers bring down the former oil factory called Charter House

New images have been revealed showing how the city's latest student development will look as a former oil factory is razed to the ground.

The old Edgar Vaughan and Co. building in the Gun Quarter has been vacant for two years when its last occupant, financial services firm RSM Tenon, moved out following its acquisition by Baker Tilly in 2013.

In just a matter of weeks, the four-storey Charter House, on the corner of Legge Street and Bagot Street next to the A38, has been demolished so construction can start in earnest on its replacement.

Two newly released CGIs (see above and gallery below) show how the as-yet-unnamed scheme will look as the Gun Quarter's reputation as the city's burgeoning student district continues to grow.

London-based specialist Threesixty Developments, until recently called Knightsbridge Student Housing, for the project.

It wants to develop 534 bedrooms in shared flats in a building of between four and ten storeys in time for 2017/18 academic year.

The halls, which will also have a 3,510 sq ft convenience store, fitness suite and 27 bike spaces, will be in a very prominent location, visible from one of the city's busiest main routes into Birmingham.

Although it will be run privately and not tied to one institution, the project is likely to appeal to those attending nearby Aston University and Birmingham City University's buildings in Eastside.
