New hotel proposed for Cardiff city centre business park

The planning application is for a 57-bedroom, 3-star hotel

The hotel would be located on the Tagomago Park

Plans for a hotel on an industrial estate in Cardiff have been submitted to the council.

A planning application for the conversion of Edward House offices and stores to a 57 bedroom hotel at Tagomago Park (formerly known as Edward House Business Centre) have been put forward.

According to the design and access statement the site is undergoing re-tenanting following its sale and the applicant has identified a need for a 3* hotel

within a short distance of the City Centre, that can provide good quality accommodation at an affordable price.

The statement adds the applicant has “good knowledge of the hotel industry having developed and operated the Hilton Hampton Hotel at Magor for many years”. And also says that in addition the architect, Gareth Davies has a good knowledge of the site having designed the original MEM offices and industrial units while at Gareth Davies Associates in 1993 and as designer of the adjoining Stride Treglown offices, where he was the Cardiff office director.

The hotel conversion proposes to make minimal external alterations to the office’s facade, utilising the existing window fenestration for the new bedrooms layout.

A portion of the extended offices and adjoining warehouse areas have been included as part of this application for conversion to hotel bedrooms and a new community café.

The applications says the new hotel would create 12 full-time jobs and 25 part-time roles.
