New flexible workspace coming to Birmingham's business district

London-based operator Runway East has signed a deal to open a new 20,000 sq ft facility in the Arca building

Natasha Guerra, chief executive of Runway East

A flexible workspace operator has struck a deal for a new base in Birmingham city centre.

Runway East has taken 20,000 sq ft of space at the Arca building, in Temple Row, as part of a 20-year joint venture with landlord Oval Real Estate.

This is the company's tenth site as it marks its tenth birthday in 2024 and also its first in the Midlands.

The vacant space will be reinvented as home to a community of start-up and growing companies, based in refurbished grade A offices.

The facility will have customisable space for teams of four to 100 people, a roof terrace, breakout space and 15 meeting rooms and phone booths.

Runway East was founded in 2014 and operates nine other co-working facilities, mainly in London where it is headquartered. The new Birmingham hub is due to open in the summer.

Chief executive Natasha Guerra said: "We've been waiting to move into Birmingham and now we are here. The Big City Plan is changing the face of the city, with Birmingham playing a pivotal role in the green revolution.
