New Donington Estate owner wants to turn historic Donington Hall into exclusive hotel for racing drivers

Jonathan Palmer wants to turn Donington Hall into a racing hotel

The company that runs the Donington Park racing circuit has revealed plans to turn neighbouring Donington Hall into an exclusive 40 bedroom hotel for drivers using the track.

Ex-F1 driver Jonathan Palmer – co-owner of MotorSport Vision (MSV) – said bike and car racers and classic car owners will be able to fly into East Midlands Airport before being driven the short distance to the hotel.

The next morning their cars and bikes – stored and maintained on-site – will be delivered to the front door of the hotel, ready to be driven straight onto the track.

MSV – which also runs Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park and Bedford Autodrome – has bought the whole 28 acre Donington Hall estate.

Along with the hotel, MSV is creating a stabling compound for supercars, vintage cars and racing cars and bikes, as well as mechanics workshops to look after them.

The north Leicestershire estate was home to Norton bikes before the bike builder went bust last year – and the Grade II listed hall was home to Norton’s previous owner Stuart Garner and his family.

The bike company is now owned by India’s TVS Motor Company and production has moved to Solihull, in the West Midlands.

MSV said the main four storey Donington Hall will be turned into a hotel that reflects the historic association with the motor racing circuit, and which it hopes will be open in time for the 2023 season.
