A new £106 million residential development on the edge of Birmingham city centre has reached its highest point.

The Belgrave Village scheme is being built on the site of the old Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College and Birmingham Sports Centre which has been vacant for more than 20 years.

Development partners Wavensmere Homes and Galliard Apsley Partnership are leading the scheme which will have 264 apartments and 174 houses across a series of different blocks reaching 11 storeys.

There will also be 263 parking spaces, amenities for residents including co-working space, a cinema room, gym and concierge services and new public open space across a 12-acre footprint.

A topping out ceremony has been held to mark the milestone, taking place only 15 months after construction work commenced on the project at the corner of Haden Way and Belgrave Middleway.

Wavensmere Homes' construction director Craig Gee said: "Belgrave Village is one of the most active regeneration sites in central Birmingham as we have between 200 and 250 construction professionals working on site five days per week.

"We were thrilled to handover the keys to the first residents during the summer and now our project team has been able to celebrate reaching the highest point of the development."
