A disused site in the heart of Preston could soon be transformed into a bustling hub with dozens of short-stay apartments and a new restaurant.
The ambitious project proposes a 42-room 'apart-hotel' on the partially vacant Avenham Street plot, where a building that has previously been deemed unsafe currently stands and is slated for demolition.
The application to Preston City Council outlines that the ground floor would host an unspecified eatery, while a bar near the reception area is intended to serve as an "informal meeting point".
Subject to approval, the proposed structure, adjacent to Baker Street bar, would span five to seven storeys, offering a mix of one and two-bedroomed apartments.
DS and Co Developments Limited, the company behind the proposal with a track record of similar developments, claims the units are "perfect for short stays and people looking for more flexibility than just a hotel".
Planning documents reveal that the building's roofline is designed to taper off in line with the sloping street, but a taller section is planned to obscure what is described as the "negative dead facade" of the neighbouring pub.
Initial plans for apartments and retail spaces on this site were put forward in 2005 but were withdrawn within months.
