More than 1,500 new jobs could be created at vast warehouse and industrial complex in central England

Developers want to build industrial units on a 79 acre site a couple of miles from the M1

A plan for the Wood Farm scheme

More than 1,500 new jobs could be created at a vast industrial complex in north west Leicestershire.

Developers want to build industrial units on a 79 acre site near Stanton under Bardon, close to Amazon’s Leicestershire base.

Over the past few decades dozens of big warehouses have gone up in the former coalfield area around Coalville, as part of earlier regeneration schemes and thanks to its central England location next to the M1.

Three large-scale industrial units are being proposed as part of a planning application for Wood Farm, next to the Cliffe Hill Quarry, to be used for logistics, storage and general industry.

Wood Farm Holdings says its plans, lodged with officials at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council earlier this month, would build on the success of the industrial developments to the north in the Bardon Hill industrial complex.

Documents sent to council planners do not indicate which firms would eventually occupy the development.

Consultants representing the developer said: “The proposal will bring about investment in the local economy and will require significant direct and indirect building services through the construction phase.

“While some of these jobs may be in place already, the scale of the proposal will assist the local construction industry and is likely to contribute to the retention of jobs and creation of some new construction related-jobs.
