Monastery demolition plan to clear land to build homes

Nuns at the Poor Clare Colettine Monastery in Flintshire have relocated to a new site

6 steps to a planning process application

Plans have been submitted to demolish a North Wales monastery to clear the way to build homes.

Nuns had lived at Poor Clare Colettine Monastery on Upper Aston Hall Lane, , , for 90 years - but left the site last summer.

Now after a consultation with the community, plans have been submitted by Eccleston Homes to pull down the existing buildings - which were redeveloped in the 1960s.

These would be replaced with 15 new homes.

A report by Cass Associates on behalf of Eccleston Homes states: "The specific design, function and layout of the complex of buildings makes conversion to other viable uses impractical and is not viable.

"The complex of buildings is not protected and are not of particular architectural significance.

"Notwithstanding this, there are features on the site which are of interest as they provide a faint link to the original Aston Bank building and its immediate grounds."

The site lies in 'Green Barrier' land in the local plan but the developer says there are exceptional circumstances in this case.
