North East radio station Metro Radio is on the move to new studios in the heart of Newcastle city centre.

The station has been based at the former BT offices now called 55 Degrees North for 16 years, having moved into Newcastle after being based in Swalwell for more than three decades.

Now Metro is moving into grade II listed Gainsborough House on Newcastle’s Grey Street, which is owned by Newcastle-based property development and investment business Adderstone Group.

Metro Radio, established in 1974, is owned and operated by Bauer Radio as part of the Hits Radio network. The move will see the new studios host the likes of Steve and Karen’s acclaimed weekday Breakfast Show direct from Newcastle’s most famous street.

Adderstone Group acquired Gainsborough House from London real estate investors in a multimillion-pound deal in July 2018.

Following a refurbishment, the 27,000 sq ft Georgian building is now fully occupied with tenants including development consultancy Pegasus Group, artisan pizza restaurant Pizza Punks, engineering services company Penspen, workforce solutions specialists Manpower and global technology company Condeco.

Metro Radio station director Dom Munnelly said: “We’re so pleased to be moving the station to one of the most iconic streets in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

“We pride ourselves on reflecting North East life in our output, so to be based in the heart of Newcastle city centre on such a vibrant street is a huge positive for us.
