A US metal trading company has set up a new base in Newry and pledged to bring "multiple" jobs to the County Down town.

Techemet has bought two 5,000 square feet units in the Carnbane Industrial Estate for £2.1 million through real estate agency Bradley NI.

Based in Pasadena, Texas, Techemet recovers and recycles high value precious metals such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, gold, and silver and has bases across the world in Mexico, Italy, Canada, Brazil and England.

Newry was chosen due to its location on the island of Ireland, Bradley Mills, Managing Director of Techemet, said.

“We are excited to invest in Newry and Northern Ireland and are very grateful to Bradley NI for their expertise, support and professionalism,” he said. “Our new premises provide us with a great base between Belfast and Dublin and in close proximity to the port at Warrenpoint.

“We look forward to being part of the local business community and to growing our team in Newry.”

Garrett O’Hare, Managing Director of Bradley NI, welcomed the arrival of Techemet to the region.

“This is a very positive story for Newry, with a high-quality inward investor adding to the vibrancy of the local business community by investing here and creating jobs,” he said. “Techemet has a 70-year heritage and is considered one of the world-leaders in its field.
