A major contract for a huge new harbourside development in Bristol has been awarded to a Birmingham-based mechanical and electrical building services firm.

J S Wright, which has its headquarters on Portland Street in Aston, secured the £3.5m-plus contract for McArthur’s Yard in the South West city.

It will design and build the mechanical services for 142 flats on the “long-derelict” site at McArthur's Yard on Gas Ferry Road in Bristol's historic dockside area.

The £36m project led by housebuilder Hill in association with housing provider The Guinness Partnership will deliver a mix of one-to-three-bedroom homes for market sale, shared ownership and social rent, as well as ground-floor commercial space.

J S Wright's contract will involve designing and installing an energy centre with associated pipework to distribute low-temperature hot water heating to radiators in each apartment via direct single plate heat interface units (HIUs).

The company will also install a boosted cold-water system for the domestic hot and cold-water supply; energy efficient mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems; smoke ventilation; dry risers; and water sprinklers within residential areas.

It will also supply and install the sanitaryware for each apartment; an internal rainwater system; and above-ground drainage.

The brief will also involve providing a building management system (BMS) incorporating a prepayment billing system for monitoring each apartment's energy use.
