A hotel group has begun a £1m revamp of one of its luxury boutique guesthouses in Gloucestershire.

The four-star Greenway Hotel and Spa in Shurdington near Cheltenham is undergoing refurbishment to update its 21 bedrooms.

Its owner, The Eden Hotel Collection, said the work would be completed in stages, allowing the hotel to remain open and for guests to be unaffected. Completion is scheduled for the start of next year.

The project will see each room in the 16th century manor house re-designed around existing features such as fireplaces or timber beams, with floorspace reworked to allow for larger bathrooms with “feature showers and freestanding baths”.

Midlands firm Builtec Developments, based in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, has been awarded the contract for the project.

Mark Chambers, managing director at The Eden Hotel Collection, said: “Our work at Greenway is now one of several major projects underway within the group and marks an exciting period for us all, driving further investment into the business to help our hotels remain firmly at the top of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s luxury boutique sector.”

The Eden Hotel Collection’s director Marian Cartter will oversee the redesign assisted by interior designer Lucy Yarwood.

Ms Yarwood added: “We are really thrilled to finally start this work. It has been a real labour of love to help shape how this will look over the past months, and the key for me has been about creating spaces which are warm and inviting for our guests, and make the best of the charming features in each room.”
