Transport and warehousing firm Owens Group is expanding its operations with a new 60,000 sq ft warehouse in South Wales. The Llanelli-based family-owned firm has signed a five-year lease for the space at C1 trade park in Aberaman.

Comprising a warehouse and distribution unit previously occupied by Rocialle Healthcare, the site forms part of Aberaman Park Industrial Estate, which is close to the A459, 25 miles north west of Cardiff and within easy reach of the A470 and M4. Other occupiers in the vicinity include Screwfix, Toolstation and Royal Mail.

The deal was brokered by real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield’s south west logistics and industrial team on behalf of the landlord, Richard Hayward Properties.

It follows news that Owens is creating 80 jobs at a new distribution centre in Cardiff. The firm, which has more than 1,000 vehicles, invested in a 95,000 sq ft facility at the Port of Cardiff in September last year. It struck a long-term lease deal for the space with the owner of the port, Associated British Ports.

Ian Owen, managing director at Owens Group, said: “This is another significant milestone in our growth trajectory and follows the recent acquisition of a 160,000 sq ft warehouse at Wales One in Magor, Monmouthshire, and a 95,000 sq ft new site in Cardiff Port.

“Our expansion to C1 Trade Park forms part of our commitment to deliver a first-class service for our clients, as well as creating new jobs to help drive investment in the South Wales community. The region is key to us, and the place where Owens Group began 50 years ago with just one van.”

Chris Yates, partner in Cushman & Wakefield’s º£½ÇÊÓƵ logistics and industrial team, said “We are pleased to support the continued growth of Owens Group in the South Wales region. This is the second deal that we have successfully completed with them in the past year.
