The latest phase of the 7,000 home Plasdŵr development on the outskirts of Cardiff has started. Housebuilder Redrow confirmed that construction work is now underway on phase three of the Cwrt Sant Ioan site.

Cwrt Sant Ioan will have a range of two, three and four bedroom homes and apartments near Cardiff, close to the village of Radyr.

The latest phase will see 86 new homes built by the Flintshire-headquartered firm including 27 two-bedroom apartments, 47 three-bedroom and 10 four-bedroom properties, and two two-bedroom affordable homes.

Final completion is expected by June 2024 with the first plots already sold subject to contract.

The development is part of the wider £2bn garden city project Plasdŵr, which is taking shape across 900 acres of countryside in the north west of the capital.

When completed, the 20-year project will comprise up to 7,000 homes – up to 30% of which will be affordable – four primary schools, a secondary school, retail, health, leisure and community facilities set across five distinct neighbourhoods.

Its development will create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
