The Clarendon Suites on Hagley Road

A property consultant has started marketing a landmark Birmingham conference centre owned by the Freemasons.

GVA is looking for a buyer for the Clarendon Suites building, which occupies a prominent position on Hagley Road in Edgbaston.

The Post previously reported that 60 jobs are set to go when the building closes on Valentine’s Day.

GVA is marketing a wider 3.5-acre site, which currently accommodates the 78,000 sq ft Clarendon Suites, just two miles from Birmingham city centre.

Designed by architect John Madin, the Clarendon Suites is a well-known events venue within the city, capable of staging conferences, exhibitions or banquets, in addition to its continued use as the Provincial Grand Lodge of Warwickshire Masons.

The site owner, Warwickshire Masonic Temple has for some time been looking to explore the opportunities to relocate to a bespoke building, following the demands of the organisation to move to a facility south of Birmingham City Centre.

GVA is considering both wholly unconditional offers for the site as well as conditional offers - subject to planning - for the wholesale redevelopment of the plot.

Mark Birks from GVA said: “The site’s prominent position on Hagley Road makes it suitable for a range of options, including residential, leisure and healthcare uses.
