A topping out ceremony has been held to mark the latest stage in the construction of a new HM Revenue and Customs office complex in the heart of Nottingham.

The event was held to mark Unity Square, a 10-storey office development being built next to Nottingham train station, reaching its highest point.

Once complete, the building, which is due to open in late 2021, will be home to a HMRC regional centre, housing up to 4,000 staff.

The Derbyshire companies behind the development are Sladen Estates, which has offices in South Normanton and Peveril Securities, the property division of Bowmer and Kirkland, which is based in Heage and is constructing Unity Square.

The build project is being managed by the Birmingham-based staff of Newcastle-headquartered Avison Young.

Rachel Wood, managing director of Sladen Estates said: “Work at Unity Square is progressing well and we’re due to complete on schedule.

“As the cornerstone of the redevelopment work taking shape across the city’s Southside, Unity Square will truly put Nottingham on the map once complete.”

Unity Square forms a major part of Nottingham’s southern gateway regeneration project, which includes work to create a new-look Intu Broadmarsh centre, central library, and bus station and car park.
